In 2015, economist Patrice Choffat saved a friend from selling their apartment below market value—an event that led to the founding of Bestag two years later.
A friend's real estate agent had originally suggested selling the apartment at a suspiciously low price. Choffat identified the reason: for the agent, a higher sale price would have meant only a marginally higher commission, while requiring significantly more work.
This experience stayed with him. He began analyzing the Swiss brokerage market and realized that many property owners accept low offers without knowing that a higher sale price would have been possible. Choffat decided to change that, and in 2017, he founded Bestag.
Patrice Choffat holds a degree in Economics with a specialization in Financial and Capital Markets from the University of St. Gallen (HSG, 2004) and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder.
